Beyond All Beyond

Letters of Timeless Wisdom from Imām Rabbānī

In the name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.

All praise is for God,
who has made possibility the mirror of necessity,
and rendered non-being the locus through which being is made manifest.

Though necessity and being are attributes of His perfection,
 He—exalted is He—
is beyond all names and attributes,
  beyond all states and considerations,
  beyond all appearances and concealments,
beyond every emergence and every hiddenness,
  beyond every radiance and manifestation,
  beyond every witnessing and unveiling,
beyond everything that can be sensed or understood,
beyond all that can be imagined or conceived.

He—glorious and exalted—
 is beyond the beyond,
  then beyond that,
   and beyond that still.

— Imām Rabbānī Mujaddid Alf Thānī, Maktūbāt, Vol. 1, Letter 1
